Back in the ‘Hood

Tuesday was a transfer day — out of the swell hotel and over to the apartment at the Seminary, behind La Catedral Epifania. While I might mumble about the condition of the apartment (this time it’s a shower that doesn’t work so well). I never say a discouraging word about the friends who support me and make the apartment such a comforting place.

For example, I arrived and the guard/handyman, Davie, made sure my bags were taken upstairs and gave me a set of keys. Virginia the Housekeeper collected my dirty clothes and had them back to me the same afternoon. The church secretary, Alba, welcomed me with a hug. A long-time member of Epifania, Marta, sat me down for a tasita (little cup) of strong coffee with sugar. Didn’t happen at the Crown Plaza.

I had some errands that needed doing, which consumed my afternoon. I needed to get water and a pump to get it out of the 5-gallon bottle. I needed to get my Dominican hotspot recharged so I’d have WiFi when I go out to schools. And, of course, I had to return to Hermanos Villar for lunch, where the welcomes continued from many waiters.
