This letter reaches you later than in past years. The Covid pandemic delayed our fund-raising efforts, as we wanted to be sure that the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic would begin and complete the 2020-2021 academic year before we asked you for your support.
Bishop Moisés Quezada Mota has identified education as a top priority for the Dominican Diocese. Most Dominicans share Bishop Moises’ belief that learning gives young people power. Yet, the pandemic has damaged their economy at least as much as it has hurt families in this country. With increasingly tight resources, the Diocese cannot improve its schools without ongoing external support.
Complicating these school improvement efforts, colegios have been and will remain in session, but not face-to-face in classrooms. Dominican educators must meet the challenges of reaching children over the Web without reliable Internet service. To their great credit, they have found ways to provide quality teaching and learning experiences using cellphones and other available technologies. Americans have seen how difficult providing a virtual education can be; with scarcer resources, the task of teaching Dominican children “at a distance” becomes even more daunting.
Donors to Colegio Kids have opened the future for Dominican children! Your dollars have funded 2000+ scholarships, supported health care clinics, renovated Colegio San Esteban, and provided educational materials; your generosity has enabled many to become the lawyers, physicians, teachers and engineers that their country so badly needs, improving their lives in the process.
Once again, in difficult times, we invite you to support the important work of Colegio Kids and thank you in advance for doing so.
As we’ve said often, some charities commit a large percentage of their resources to fund-raising and program administration. Colegio Kids applies every donation to advancing kids’ futures. As you give thought to where your charitable donations can have the largest impact, please consider providing one or more scholarships in this academic year.
Please contact us with questions and/or comments.
Thanks so much for all your help.
